The University of Texas System | StartupTree
By partnering with StartupTree, the schools in the University of Texas system were able to achieve their goal of creating a larger and more tight-knit community among the Texas schools. The resources and opportunities now available to students across the Texas network are more numerous and more impactful than in prior years.

The Challenge
As one of the largest public university systems in North America, the UT System needed an easy way to share resources across 13 different campuses.

The Solution
StartupTree enabled the UT System to grow their student user base, centralize data, spur collaboration, and share more opportunities across the state.

The Results
The UT System centralized their schools’ entrepreneurial events, applications, and competitions and saw:
- a 66% increase in platform users
- a 77% increase in event registrations
- a 40% increase in application submissions
- a 91% increase in mentorship meetings
- a 78% increase in competition submissions
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SCHOOLS
The UT public school system holds over 240,000 students in total, spanning across 13 institutions. With so many students, it is essential to have a multitude of entrepreneurship resources available at each school.
One of the largest schools in the system is The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UT Dallas, directed by Dresden Goldberg, helps students explore entrepreneurship by “educating, empowering, and equipping students with tools needed in order to enable the next generation’s new ventures.”

The Challenge
Sharing Opportunities Within the UT System
Within the UT system, there are 13 total institutions that all operate at different levels, sizes, and budgets. It is essential to be able to share resources among the schools to provide resources to schools that might not have what they need at their own institution.
The UT system lacked a way to centralize their opportunities among all of the schools, which made it much harder to easily share opportunities with one another, and took lots of extra time.

“The time saving alone is the biggest thing.
To have everything in one platform is incredible. We used to share opportunities through email by sending links to other schools to share with their students. We tracked all of our startup metrics through Excel, and it was very easy to miss details and keep things up to date.
The events, the startup job postings, the reporting, and having the startup profiles available on StartupTree have all been a total game changer."

The Solution
Centralized Data, Streamlined Opportunity Share, and Cross-Pollination Engagement

Centralized Data
Easy-to-track detailed metrics and significant time saved during reporting
Tracking data and metrics within each school using Excel is difficult enough, and tracking data across the whole system was even more convoluted. With StartupTree, the UT schools began to gather metrics on their students without manual work, which increased their operational efficiency and influenced daily decision making, now based on live metrics.
With insight into the demographics of people using the programs, it is possible to easily identify when/if the programs need modification. Yearly reporting is now 10x easier.
Streamlined Opportunity Share
Convenience, time savings, and maximize impact with one-click event push
A fan favorite feature of StartupTree is how easy it is to share resources and opportunities with just one click – what we call a one-click event push. Schools can upload resources to StartupTree that other schools in the system can take advantage of by simply clicking the share button, and it sends the resource out.
Cross-Pollination Engagement
Interconnected participation in events and opportunities across all UT institutions
As resource sharing across the UT school increased, students became much more interconnected and involved with events and opportunities at other schools. This expands even beyond the UT system and into the Blackstone community as a whole.
"It's easy to use without much instruction. The features like mentoring and competition judging are huge time savers, the startup data dashboard is critical to our reporting, and its inexpensive compared to other products with similar capacity.
Now that we have this central platform that everyone uses, we are much more connected."
